Amy Clarkson

Class Teacher

Background
Amy has been teaching for 5 years. She first started her degree in Early Years education at 19 and worked in a nursery in Crantock; where she put what she had learnt into practise. The nursery had a fantastic outdoor space and Amy was lucky enough to be able to learn from a forest school leader. She has a passion for psychology and understanding behaviour, which heavily influences how she teaches. Previously, Amy has completed initial teacher training and a PGCE course, and more recently she has gone on to complete a diploma in Trauma Informed Schools. This looked at the neuroscience behind behaviour, alongside psychological theories. After taking a year out to have her first child, Amy is now completing a Master’s Degree in Education.

Why did Amy choose teaching?
Amy always wanted to be a teacher. As an adult she achieved her ambition of becoming a dancer in the West End. Following this, she became a dance teacher. After volunteering in a school, Amy loved the creative aspects of learning in the classroom. She then made a big decision and decided to go straight into teaching! Amy has always been fascinated with how experiences impact both learners and the learning that takes place. Therefore, on a daily basis, she seeks to provide a calm, empathetic and fun place for children to learn.

Outside of school
Amy really enjoys cooking and trying new recipes. She also loves baking and has created many cakes for friends and family over the past few years. This includes a half pipe cake for a friend’s son, who loves his scooter, and a baby bathtub for another friend's baby shower.

Most interesting fact about Amy
She once spent four days trekking through the Andes, reaching 4,000ft to see Machu Pichu in Peru.
